How rankings work

Every server on HypixMC gets a score out of 100, recomputed every fifteen minutes. The score is a weighted blend of five signals. Every signal is normalised to a 0–1 range and capped, so no single one can run away with the ranking. This page is generated from the same weights the scorer runs — if the algorithm changes, this page changes with it.

Votes 40%

What we measure:
Unique votes in the last 30 days. One vote per player name, per network and per account each day, checked at the database level.
Why it counts:
Votes are the clearest signal that real players want a server to rank. The 30-day window means momentum matters, not history.
How it is scaled:
Log-scaled against the most-voted listing, so one giant server does not flatten everyone else to zero.

Active players 25%

What we measure:
The live player count from our own status ping, taken every two minutes.
Why it counts:
It is hard to fake and it reflects what a new player will actually find when they join.
How it is scaled:
Converted to a percentile: the share of other listings this server beats on players online.

Rating 20%

What we measure:
The average star rating from approved reviews by logged-in accounts. Owners cannot review their own listing.
Why it counts:
Player experience should count, but a single five-star review should not outrank a hundred four-star ones.
How it is scaled:
A Bayesian average: every listing starts as if it had ten reviews at the site-wide mean, then real reviews pull it toward its true score.

Review volume 10%

What we measure:
How many approved reviews the listing has.
Why it counts:
More reviews make the rating more trustworthy.
How it is scaled:
Log-scaled against the most-reviewed listing.

Listing completeness 5%

What we measure:
A checklist: a real description, logo, banner, at least one link, gamemodes, versions, and verified ownership.
Why it counts:
Complete listings are more useful to players and signal an owner who is actually maintaining the page.
How it is scaled:
Each item counts equally; the score is the fraction completed.

What never affects rank

  • Payment. Featured and sponsored placements are stored separately, always carry a label, and are not an input to this score.
  • Who you are. Listings run by HypixMC staff are scored by the same code as everyone else's.
  • Spoofed votes. Vote identity is taken from the network address our own proxy records, not from anything the client sends, and duplicates are rejected by the database.

How to rank higher

Complete your listing, verify ownership, keep the server online, and ask your players to vote once a day. Sorting on theservers pagelets players order by votes, players, rating or recency instead if they prefer a single signal.
